Lake Worth Closed. Max Flood level for year expected this evening

Please see the two emails below from Paul Bounds, City of Fort Worth, Lake Worth management office. Please note that when the lake is at this level boats can cause a wake that will cause damage to low lying properties.

I believe the highest flood point we saw this spring was 597.5. They are predicting 597.78 this evening.

I was just informed that TRWD is closing Eagle Mtn. Lake until the lake elevations return to a safe level. Based on current and predicted levels for Lake Worth, the decision has been made to close it as well to boat traffic until we drop back down to 595.5 with declining flows from Eagle Mtn. No boating activities will be allowed on Lake Worth until further notice.

Last night we saw an exceptional amount of rain resulting in dramatic increases in area lake elevations. See http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=fwd&gage=flwt2. This was due to a number of heavy rain storms that settled in over Lake Worth and Eagle Mtn. Lake. This caught everyone by surprise. The predictions for this morning’s Lake Worth levels from TRWD last night was 595.5. At 8:00 this morning we were at 596.68. The last prediction I received from TRWD was that Lake Worth would crest at 597.78 latter on this evening. This would result in flooding of several low lying homes at Lake Worth. From the TRWD Lake Blog http://www.trwd.com/lake-level-blog the current discharge is 7491 cfs from Eagle Mtn. with Lake Worth discharging 10,184 cfs. Lake Worth is predicted to be at 596.80 by 2:00 P.M. today. The current weather report calls for a break in the rain this afternoon which combined with a Lake Worth discharge greater than the Eagle Mtn. discharge should help to stabilize elevations. Another round of rain is expect tomorrow morning which could charge all of this based on the quantity and duration of the rainfall events.

Lake Flooding Alert!

Lake Worth is considered full at 594.0 above sea level. It is at 596.68 as of 6:00 AM this morning.

TRWD predicts Lake Worth will rise to 596.91 by noon today. All lake projections are based on rain that has already fallen and has generated flows recorded at stream and lake gauges. This information is subject to change as weather conditions change.

My personal expectation is that we will reach the same flood level as we saw earlier in the year if not higher.

If you have valuables on your boat dock or lower ground please move it to higher ground. If you have neighbors out of town please check if they need assistance.
